Luminace Acquires Four Community Solar Projects from Renewable Properties in Illinois

The portfolio includes a total of 20.85 MWdc in Lake County and Kendall County

San Francisco — October 24, 2024 — Luminace, one of the largest fully integrated decarbonization-as-a-service providers in North America, has announced the acquisition of a 20.85 MWdc portfolio of community solar projects from Renewable Properties, a leading U.S. developer and investor in small-scale utility, community solar, energy storage, and EV infrastructure projects. The acquisition, which closed on September 12, 2024, adds four community solar projects to Luminace’s growing asset portfolio in 29 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and Canada.

The projects acquired include the 5.16 MWdc Route 83 Solar Project, the 5.82 MWdc North Avenue Solar Project, and the 5.67 MWdc West 21st Street Solar Project, each of which is located in Lake County, Illinois. A fourth project, the 4.2 MWdc White Willow Road Solar Project, is located in the Village of Lisbon in Kendall County. The four projects are in the advanced stages of development and will be operational by the fourth quarter of 2025, offering community solar subscriptions to a variety of local Lake County and Kendall County customers by that time. Once completed, the portfolio will add to the Illinois Shines program, a key initiative supporting the state’s push toward clean energy through the Climate and Equitable Jobs Act (CEJA).

Passed in 2021, CEJA aims to expand the state’s renewable energy portfolio to over 1.5 gigawatts of community solar capacity over the next decade and provide solar energy access to Illinois residents who may not be able to install solar panels on their own homes. As of 2024, Renewable Properties has over 1.2 GW of solar, energy storage, and EV infrastructure under development across 15 states, with more than 170 MWdc currently under construction or in operation. The proceeds from the sale will support Renewable Properties’ ongoing community solar and EV charging infrastructure efforts to deploy local clean energy across the U.S.

“Renewable Properties’ mission is to drive energy forward for local communities, and this Illinois portfolio is an example of our team’s commitment to developing clean energy solutions for Americans throughout the US,” said Aaron Halimi, Founder and President of Renewable Properties. “We are excited to team up with Luminace, who shares our vision for local distributed generation and will ensure these projects deliver safe and reliable solar energy to the residents of Lake and Kendall County.”

“Luminace is proud to continue to support the further development and deployment of community solar throughout Illinois this year, and we’re grateful to Renewable Properties for the opportunity to contribute to advance the execution of these projects,” said Brendon Quinlivan, Chief Executive Officer, Luminace. “With the addition of these projects, Luminace now owns and operates over 100 MW of Illinois community solar projects, and is one of the largest providers of local clean, reliable community solar solutions across the communities that we serve. We look forward to completing these projects in 2025 and providing decades of reliable renewable energy capacity for the residents of Lake County and Kendall County.”
